My 63 travellers both have this speedo ... with a gold face and 90mph

Ive seen this listed in the Minor service parts list as suitable for 4.875 diff but this dosent make sense on my travellers which both have 4.22 diffs

I havent got to the bottom of the tpm being different from the 1098 saloons. The gearboxes are the ribbed type 10 MA and standard 4.22 diffs are fitted so I assume that the speedo gears in the gearbox are somehow different???

Perhaps early 10MA gearboxes had the 9 MA speedo gears or something like that. :-?

1376 TPM is probably a Mini speedo but would be suitable for a 3.9 possibly or 3.7 diff.

Hi

I just found this earlier post.
Willie wrote:YES, the SN 4477/30 is for a 1098cc Minor between 1962 to 1964.If you give me your chassis number I should be able to give you the correct number but for your year it would probably be SN4466/00 or SN4477/00.
So it would appear that 1376 is the originally fitted TPM for 62-64 1098s?

I would think it unlikely that both of my travellers have had replacement speedos.

A 1098 speedo between 1962-4 would have a gold face and 90mph dial.

Note This chart is unfinished Additional information is welcome
It should be born in mind when choosing a speedo to suit the differential that they nearly always over read

Thanks for that Mike

Ok

If Im reading that correctly then a series 5 with 4.22 diff should have a 1408 or a 1376 tpm :D

Theres only 2.5% difference between those so depends how worn your tyres are :D :D :D

So it looks likely that mine are correct although not on your list - perhaps the 4477/80 is a typo.

Funny I seem to remember recent posts saying that 1504 TPM was correct for later cars? It seems thats the case if fitted with a 4.55 diff.

So Tom... looks like your speedo will suit a 62-64 car and could be used on any standard series 5 with 4.22 diff.

Interesting thread with a surprising amount of variations on the speedo.

After reading I took a pic of a couple i have(the one on the left has Kilometers on it SN 4423/04 1408 with a round chrome edge the other SN 4419/04A 1376 with a pointed chrome edge and white circular lines in the centre)
Warning lights all look the same.

So why was there a difference in the shape of the chrome surround and finally how do you determine if a speedo is from a Mini.

The information was plagiarized from various publications, rally sites, autojumbles etc so I would appeciate more information and any corrections.
If the speedo was in a Mini when I took the serial number then I would say that it belongs to a Mini :)
