Roof Bars.

Post by Slingers0710 »

Hello.
Just wondering if anyone can give me any advice. I have found these roofbars online and was just wondering if they would fit securely on to a Morris Minor, because they come with an option to increase clearance and the width can be adjusted too.

Many thanks.

I have something similar that I use on my Traveller and they are good. Mine are 8 inch so either 7 or 9 would work I think. G.

The fixing to the gutters looks very poor - and in any case the Minor gutters are really not intended to carry any weight! Most 'roof racks' of that era had 4 rubber pads to carry the weight on the steel curved roof sections - the gutter clamps only being designed to hold the rack secure - not to carry weight. It's all even more precarious on a Traveller - where the roof is just a thin aluminium sheet - and the gutters are just thin aluminium folded up and tacked on with panel pins!!!! I suggest the roof bars you indicate would only be suitable for a VERY light load on a Minor saloon, and foolhardy on a Traveller!!
