Dried on waxoil removal. Help!

Postby peteatreat » Sat Apr 11, 2015 5:39 pm

Hi
I have patches of waxoil which is dried on to the painted surface in the engine bay. It could possibly have been there for years!
Please could I have some tips as to how to remove it without damaging the paint.
Thank you.

Try warming it gently with a hot air gun then wipe it over with white spirit, might work.

Scrape it off with a slither of timber, then as mentioned white spirit.

Yes, done all that and it's quite hard work. I consoled myself with the thought that without the ancient wax oil there would have been more rust.
