Replacement carpet recommendations

Post by MollyOwner »

Hi folks,

We are about to replace the ageing carpets in our 1967 convertible. Quite a few advertised from £70 upwards.
Can anyone advise on a good quality carpet - we are looking for one in biscuit colour if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance

Stuart and Tina

Don't by cheap if you can afford not to. The cheaper carpets are not as good fits, are thinner and tend to go hard and crease over time. The best ones are trimmed at the edges, pliable and retain their colour as well. If you can, invest in a good quality underlay it will reduce road noise and prolong the life of the carpet.

Thanks for that. Yes, I did wonder if it was a question of quality rather than the same carpet sold at different prices by various dealers. We are able to purchase a good quality one so will research some more.
Thanks for the heads up

Newton commercial have a good rating, I have a full Newton interior and it looks really good. Newton are also extremely helpful and decent people to do business with, as I had to strip the drivers seat to weld a broken frame and needed some materials to reupholster it. More than helpful with advice and sorting out what I required.

It was fitted before I got the car, my only negative to it is that if the underlay came from them it's awful stuff, just the beige hairy type. If you have to go under the carpet for any reason such as the brake master cylinder then hairs are everywhere, and in increasing numbers.

That's on the replacement list this year, some of the latex backed stuff will hopefully reduce the mess.

And there appear to be some good deals there, although the devil is in the detail as always

I have Newton Commercial carpets in mine and I am not happy with them at all. They are more like felt than carpet. I have discussed this with other owners and they all said the same. I would not buy them again. I think I recall Roy stating that the BM carpets were the best but I have never seen them so I can't say.

Interesting to know, mine are probably 7 years old now I reckon, and they are carpet like. The underfelt though is dreadful.
