Leaky Petrol Tank

Post by grahamt7 »

Cleaning out the boot of my Minor 1000, noticed a little pool of petrol in the dish that holds the sender into the petrol tank. Cleaned it up and watched as a little more made it's way up the screws and formed another little pool. Tried some "Petro Patch Putty" around the top of the screw heads, no use, still leaking after it set hard. Anyone got any thoughts on what else I could do?

Thanks in advance,

Graham.

It's not so easy to get a new gasket down here in NZ. I used Permatex 2 sealer (it's hard to find a petrol-resistent sealer.) First time it lasted a couple of years before leaking a little. This is in a traveller so it's a real pain to get to the sender.

Partly because of this I seldom fill the tank right up, to keep the sender seal away from the petrol.

I replaced the gaskets with normal gasket paper (hand cut) which promptly leaked again.
Then I used fuel resistant gasket paper & now no leaks :D .

I hadn't heard of fuel resistant gasket paper until I had this problem :-? .
