Well normally we would be in France this week, but we're still camping with the Morris. Roll on MOT 2022, keep safe all!

Lovely spot, somewhere up north in England?
We were a Minor on Tour on a riverside site in France, 1971 trav and 1979 trailer tent - plus 3 year old dog on his first ever camping trip.

It's gorgeous, Philip, especially low season. Some nights we were the only ones on site so we had acres all to ourselves, plus riverside walks beyond. Lots to visit nearby too.
Looking forward to going back early September :D

Porlock, Somerset. Weather ok as well, though we had rain on Weds AM.
Just been up a step hill onto Exmoor, near Dunkery Beacon. Steep hill that required 1st several times. Not Porlock hill before anyone asks!
Not quite been trouble free though, it had a flat battery yesterday morning, which I thought was odd after an 80 mile run without lights or heater on. Had to roll the car down the hill to start it. One of the battery terminals was loose, so I'm putting it down to that.

Lovely area around Exmoor, I haven't been there since 2005 and that sadly was for a funeral - and I was on crutches!

It is lovely around here. Would been even more enjoyable if I didn't now have a suspected head gasket failure.... :(
Might be a faulty plug, I'm not sure, off to Minehead tomorrow to get a new set. If not, it'll be trailer home on Saturday.
Grrr.

What's you mean.... the view looking south from my house today in Leicestershire.
Sorry no Moggie in the shot, but the car is in the garage with no brakes thanks to an ESM delivery going astray in the Post.

Looks like Germany or that area with the snow poles at the side of the road.

I'm sure it is Germany, since that's where Nickol lives, but they're not 'Snow Poles', they're just regular road edge markers as Germany doesn't use 'Cats Eyes' like the UK does. 2 dots on left maker and vertical bar on the right.
I hate to point out the obvious, but apart from being a bit on the short side, White Posts aren't generally a lot of good as markers in the snow..... :)

Well, having driven in Germany a fair bit, they are poles rather than cats eyes partly because they stick up above the snow, without these the edges of the road is tricky to see ;)

If you look across the internet they are often described as snow poles, even in the UK, though mostly Scotland, and are used partly by gritters and snowploughs to again know where the edge of the road is ;)

I lived there for 7 years in the 70s and 90s and have driven in just about every 'Western' European country, Denmark down to Italy, including East Berlin before the wall came down, followed by East Germany immediately after, before unification; now that was a time travel experience.... nothing had changed since the 1940s.

The posts you refer to are in the German Traffic Signs manual (for want of a better description) http://www.vzkat.de/2017/VzKat.htm as "Leitpfosten". Now I will defer to Nickol or another native German speaker, but I believe that translates as "Delineator post", simply an edge of roadway marker, irrespective of weather conditions.

Not been on here for a few days because I got an eye infection and could not see properly.

The area in the picture is in Vogelsberg in Germany where I live ,of course. The "Leitpfosten" mark the edge of the road with reflectors as pointed out but they are not as good as cats eyes in the fog being too far apart. They are also present on the Autobahn and serve no purpose there as far as I can see.
In the autumn, the authorities fix additional poles to the Leitpfosten because the snow can be more than 2m deep sometimes after drifting.

Here is another pic I took of the same view

If I remember correctly, and it has been 25+ years, German Autobahn posts have a pointer on them indicating which way to the nearest emergency phone.

UK Motorway ones are slightly more functional in that they tell you where you are on the road.

The location aspect is perhaps more important now since most people would simply use a mobile phone rather than walk to an emergency post.
Quite perversely, the marker posts give distances in Kms, not Miles, so the numbers do not compare to the distances shown on other signs along the same roads......
