Mg midget 1100 engine

Postby stuupnorth » Mon Mar 16, 2020 9:49 pm

hi all

looking to sell this engine that I have had around for a while
Not sure what its worth
its a 1098 cc Mg midget engine code 10cc
it was in a shed for a few years before I acquired it but the owner removed the plugs!!! so I believe the rings have seized the pistons I have filled the bores with various lubes plus gas being the latest but the crank isn't budging
so it needs a full strip down and rework
its complete with carbs (would need a total overhaul) and with the 12g295 head

Been trying to PM you but little success. I’m newbie so might be doing something in error.
Is engine still available?

Would really be an upgrade over a standard Minor 1000 engine?
I used to own a 1380 mini with twin carbs and they were a pain in the backside, I ended up fitting a single HIF 44.

With the 12g490 head I appreciate it will breathe better but is it worth buying this over say a 1275?

Apologies I'm not trying to ruin your advert just asking advice as I'm in the market for an engine to rebuild.

The 10CC prefix engine is the best BMC 1098cc engine produced.

The 10CC engine has the 12G295 head which is nearly as good as the 940.

Other than capacity the 10CC engine is comparable with a 1275cc 'A' Series.

It is a good engine for a rebuild and this particular engine has all the bells and whistles.

The seized condition can be easily overcome.
I would remove the crankshaft and concentrate on each piston individually by knocking upwards through and via the conrod.

Phil

Thanks for the information Phil
I have just looked and the engine is in Aberdeen nearly a 6 hour drive one way for me.

The 10CC Midget engine is well worth considering as a basis for a Minor 1000 - largely because of the stronger bottom end and better cylinder head. I have a couple of them myself. Not particularly sought after compared with the later 1275 unit so more affordable and this one has the advantage of being complete. I suspect that the location will be the biggest blow to this particular sale. Probably a good buy for anybody who can collect it!

Sorry no, I don't have any plan to part with my "spare" in the foreseeable future.
Good luck in your search.
