how can i identify my engine size from the engine number ? is there a web site that i can visit ? :-)

we can help you here! do you happen to have the engine number at hand?

Also, it should be on the manifold side of the engine, near the front. there should be a plate stating the size

The 918cc side valve engine number starts with USHM2.....
The 803cc engine starts with APHM..... The 948cc engine starts withAPJM...
or, 9M..... The 1098 engines start with 10MA... or 10ME. ALL Gold Seal factory reconditioned engines start with 8G.

cheers to all the replys the engine number started with 10ma-U-H
so it is a 1098 thanks again. :-)

so why dose the plate on the manifold side say 1100

Check out the actual CC of any engine - they're always rounded up :)

Fiesta 1100 is 1117cc and Volvo 340 1.7 is 1721cc. Probably more, but those are two that spring to mind.

...and I'm basing what I said pretty much on the Mog and the VW 1100/1300. We live and learn - we have no choice :D

Indeed. Most I have seen are rounded down though. Just that my first car was a Fiesta 1100 (Mk1) so it stuck in my mind...

Discounting the numbers cast into the block of a Minor 1000 you could say that model fulfils both. 948cc Minor 1000, rounded up. 1098cc Minor 1000, rounded down. :-? So could well have been Minor 1100 when engine uprated :o

Or lengths of boats, think grandpas is called a 341 but is actually 35 feet me thinks... as for engines usually up i would agree
