Adding to list of where did they come from...

Post by stevey »

Adding to list of where did they come from some of the members of the club branch form here and me would like to see if any of you know any history on the English reg cars over here.

BHC 857C - traf blue 2 door 1000
VTD 165H - traf blue 4 door 1000
VPX 935 - grey split screen traveller

There are more but I cant remember any of the rest but will get a list.

If this is the information you need try -
http://www.ukcar.com/features/area.htm

The last two letters determine the original registration town/city/county.
So (B)HC would be Brighton. etc.

Are you trying to trace the car history? or its rough source location?

The link in the post above is a good rough gudie, the most complete registration guide i found is this one :

http://www.londonbusroutes.net/miscellaneous/regs.htm

which takes account of fact that some registration codes were re-used over time.

Hi 57 I think you have got that the wrong way round its the last 2 letters from the year designation.
BHC 857C which will be BH(c) Luton

if you read through the page I linked to it shows you how to read the registration.

quote from that page...

'But soon a revolutionary new system of suffix letters was introduced. In this system each year had a letter, starting with A in 1963, B for 1964 and so on (e.g. JJD 367D: J = counter, JD = area (London), 367 = “random” combination, D = 1966).'

so BHC 857C

HC in year 1965 came from Eastbourne

Thats why I like that page, can give you more information than you may have thought because it helps break down some larger areas for certain years.

According to the date and letters it comes from Worcester thats why I like that page it shows a little more than most data sources I have seen.

best way to read it is to look down at the main large table with the letter combination on the left, and crossref upwards given the date
