Widest tyres to fit 14"?

Post by cunning_plan »

What are the widest rear tyres you can fit on the standard 14" rim?

Also, what is a good 'normal' size to go for that is wider than the current jammy dodgers on there but not like uber wide?

I am thinking 'normal' for the front and as wide as possible on the back.. 8)

Thanks,

IIRC you can get a set of 4 Toyo's for approx £100 from one of the Minor suppliers. That beats cheap tyres for a similar price...

145's will probably give better handling although the difference is not massive. You can notice it on heavy cornering as the 155 is too wide for the rim so less stable at it's limits.

If you want to go wider you can get wider Rims from the 8CWT Minor vans that will take 155 or 165 on the front and easily accomodate 175 on the rear.

The Morris Minor was not designed to have different width tyres at the back and front so I imagine that you could get some strange handling, especially in the wet.

155s all round work fine on mine too. I am talking about standard tyres on the front and wide tyres on the back
