Oil Gauge

I've just finished fitting an oil gauge, Smiths with a T piece and a long black pipe. All looks to be working well but I have a simple question. There was way too much black pipe so I've coiled it up and rested it behind the bash board. Will this give a false reading on the gauge?
While I'm here what sort of pressure should the gauge be reading at tick-over, I've got it attached to a 1098 if that makes a difference.

It won't do any harm - but can you not just shorten it ? Oil pressure should be at least 10 psi per 10 mph in top gear up to 60 where it should settle no matter how much faster you go. On a really good engine it will be 60/70 psi virtually any time the engine is above idle. On a hot engine it should idle at 25 psi ideally although 15 is fine. Depends on the idle speed really!

Thanks for that, I suppose I could shorten the pipe but the ends are air tight and I'm unsure how I would re-make then during the shortening process.... Any ideas anyone?

As the pipe is black I'm guessing it's plastic.
I think you'll find the seal is made by tiny brass olives, as long as nobody has gone bonkers tightening them up one might be reusable.
Otherwise find a tiny olive shop and use one to seal the shortened pipe.

Wind the spare tubing around the heater trunking, leaving just enough to fit the T piece
