Brake drums

Post by Rust bucket »

Hi, when I get around to resoring the brakes on my 1964 car, I wish too keep the 8"drum setup with a servo, reading some of the comments about drums nobody I have seen has talked about fitting Minifin drums to their cars, can't they be modified?.

Also must have banded steel wheels on the car as well, because what I have seen on other cars look great. 8)

I had some Minifins on a Midget that were made without the Mini spacer bit on them. Nice, but I changed to Riley rear brakes for the better handbrake. I doubt that the Minifins were any better at stopping the car but they weighed marginally less. (The car, if you look, was quite a lightweight). Are there any 8-inch Minifins?

Minifins are only 7" and complete waste of time/money on rear brakes. Do let me know the first time you manage to fade the standard rear brakes on a Minor.........

I may be wrong but I thought Mini's had 8" drums of the front, if there is little improvment then it's not worth it but I was only thinking of putting Minifins on the front anyway because they are £60, if not more each.

Nah! 7 inch drums and 8-and-a-bit (?) discs.

Ask Roy (bmcecosse) about fitting disc brakes. :D

Oh yes- discs on a hard driven Mini are great idea - best with Fiesta calipers and then the 10" wheels can be retained. Discs if you wish on a Minor - but not an inexpensive business!
