Can anyone tell me the date of a MM motor by number please? Or where I can find it out? The engine number is 130969, which I'm guessing is about 1952. I was going to rebuild it for my lowlight.

You can find the year of production on the right side of the engine. See photo. Also on the cylinder head. Engine number of my 1952 car is 135058.

Re: Dating a sidevalve engine
Is it correct that the engine number should be the same as the chassis number?
In that case the list from Mike Perry can tell how old an engine is.
But, my engine with number 123046 has the number 51 on the side, and the engine with number 81806 has no year on the side....
As second, the position from the engine number from the old one is different.

Re: Dating a sidevalve engine
The engine no is usually similar to the chassis no but not the same.
The original engine no should be on the chassis plate.<77000 = USHM2 engine, 77001< = USHM3 engine which should also have the no stamped on the face of the block in front of the cylinder head uness the block as been skimmed.
ExWD generator engines may not follow the same numbering system

In that case, something is strange on engine 81806, the engine number is on another place[frame][/frame]
And on the copper plate, is the correct type.[frame][/frame]
Mike, I cleaned the chassis plate, and found out that the original engine from my car, is the 123046.
When I bought the car, the man told me that the original engine was removed, and this one was the old engine from his other car.....
The only thing, he did not do the job by himself, so the company had only used some parts to rebuild his own engine.
I know from the owner before, he sold this car with a running engine.
Maybe I am lucky with 2 engines ;)
