I feel like the end of the ht lead going into the coil should look like this?

The fuel pump couldn't have been the problem - if you still have it with a new pump! It's your cash - spend it as you wish. Do clean the points on the old pump and carry it as a spare. And I hope you didn't buy an 'electronic' pump.... Just remake the end of the HT lead - it just needs a small washer - bare the cable end and push the wires through the hole, then spread them out in a fan, and clamp it into the coil.

When i move the lead inside the coil, it doesnt make a difference. Could a misfire be the reason why this is all happening?

What problem? A mis-fire is a mis-fire ! You assured us a new petrol pump was the answer to the original problem...... Does the new pump supply petrol? Have you tested it by pumping a pint of petrol through into a can?

It could be hunting due to running far too rich and causing the spluttering and stalling. Or idle speed could be set too low.
