Child Seats
Hi All
Any advice would be appreciated.
Since getting my traveller 3 years ago , my two boys have sat in the back in child seats supported by new seatbelts.
My eldest son is now 8 and has out grown the child seat with a backrest.
I've two options now remove the back rest and use the remainder as a booster seat, or don't use anything.
If he sits in the front seat without any booster his head is just below the back of the seat, the seatbelt looks like its fitting across his shoulder OK.
If he sits on a booster his head would be over the back of the chair which doesn't have any head rest.
My question is which would be best.
No booster and head protected by back of chair or booster and no head rest.
Thanks
Andy

Re: Child Seats
Over 22g and under age 12 or under 135cm tall you have no legal option but to use a booster, even though it may be more dangerous as there are no headrests.

Re: Child Seats
Sorry, I meant 22kg. Good news if he is over 135cm, he WILL think he's grown up not having to use a child's seat anymore!

Hi Andy
Can I ask how you mounted your rear seat belts?
I will have to install some on my traveller and am after ideas on where to mount them
Cheers

I'll take a photo for you. They are mounted on the wheel arch.
I didn't do it personally. Millennium Moters did them for me.

My only problem is the belt quite often falls between the end of the seat and window, rather than staying over the back of the seat.

Re: Child Seats
Thanks Andy,
Thats exactly how I was going to mount them. I might get a strap fitted to the either side of the backrest - to stop the belt sliding off the backrest. Thanks for posting the photo.
Cheers

Re: Child Seats
Just thought I'd update and show a photo of the rear seat belt mounts.
The white stuff around the mounts is body seam sealant.[frame][/frame][frame][/frame]

Re: Child Seats
So you have either the legal or safe option. I'm in exactly the same situation and it's a no brainer for me. I'm of the view that the legislation was drafted for cars that weren't designed in the 1940s and there's no way I'll put my spawn at risk of increased head injury just to tick a box. While my 2 year old has a proper child seat, I deliberately put my 5 year old daughter in the back without a booster which in my view is the safest as I've found Moggy seats are a lot smaller and lower than my modern daily.andygill wrote:If he sits in the front seat without any booster his head is just below the back of the seat, the seatbelt looks like its fitting across his shoulder OK.
