Fan blade colour
I am going to paint the fan blade and pulley on my latest purchase, as I have them off the car. It's a 61 with it's original 948 and they are yellow at the minute. Some would say I should know this, as I would be classed as a 'minor' nerd !! But what colour should they be / when did they change from red to yellow?

Re: Fan blade colour
Both the fan and pulley on my '58 948 (original engine confirmed by the original logbook) were yellow, I am 99% certain that they were from that point on. Supposedly safer as it's easier to see the fan.
Re: Fan blade colour
read somewhere red was for export, I went for fiat yellow on my 948, nice and bright . but think rover yellow would be correct more gold.

Re: Fan blade colour
And on later engines the pulleys were black but with yellow blades, but that's a late 60s thing so not right for a 50s car. Think its around 68 on, from original ones I've seen..
cheers

Re: Fan blade colour
The fan on our '61 (Canada) is yellow, engine is a 1275 (from what I don't know), but I suspect the fan is original to the car. There was 2 blades on the fan, I removed one.read somewhere red was for export

Re: Fan blade colour
I had an early 948cc Minor 1000 - it was late a 1950s car but I can't remember what year - and it certainly had a red fan. My 1961 car - also 948cc - has a yellow one, so at some stage during 948 production they seem to have changed but I can't tell you when!
Unfortunately on most underbonnet pictures the fan is obscured .

Gidday from Australia
My 1960 Morris Minor 1000 / 948cc is still all original as it was from the showroom and the pulley and blades are red. Hope this has helped.

Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!
