Does anyone have an early Series MM original "brown boss" wheel, minus horn push, that they could weigh (metric)?
I ask as I've just bought a "brown boss" steering wheel, originally off an early MG (?), that is lighter than a "gold boss" one.
The MG one looks identical to the MM one but has slightly more raised "dimples" on the underside (for a better grip on a faster car?)
The central hub has an additional spline cut-out which, when fitted to an MM steering column will not be used (I can take pictures).
Brown Boss wheel weighs 1.280Kg
Gold Boss wheel weighs 1.585Kg.
Thanks in anticipation,
George.

Re: Weight of MM Steering Wheels
George,
My MG TD steering wheel (17") weighs in at 1.356kg without the boss. The MG TD steering wheel is keyed-not splined. I have made a drawing of the steering wheel hub if you need it.
Regards
Declan

Hello Declan, I'm sorry, I meant "keyed" with 2 key cut-outs. The Series MM only needs the one.Declan_Burns wrote: ↑Mon Dec 16, 2019 1:04 pm George,

Re: Weight of MM Steering Wheels
If the nut hasn't tightened the wheel down onto the taper then that slot wears against the little 'key', hence someone broaching a new slot into the wheel. had to do the same to one of ours. It previously had a noticeable clunk upon turning the wheel. I wonder if the early ones were softer?
