As already stated, it seems like a case of very successful advertising of a very inferior product.
A bit like Republicans getting behind Trump.

Or, indeed, cassettes over eight-tracks.

A quick update; WD40 does not contain fish oil, and should not be sprayed on fishing tackle that is cast into water, because it will cause damaging pollution.

I asked on a well known fishing website.

I often use both WD40 and GT85 in my brother's bodyshop, for helping to release/aid the fitting of rusty fasteners, fittings, etc.

I suspect it's mainly a psychological advantage it gives most of the time, but you do feel kind of 'dry' without using the stuff!

I prefer the smell of WD40 to GT85 though - the latter smells very synthetic; I think it's more of a PTFE lubrication fluid, so best reserved for bike/motorbike chains, etc.

The guy who works in the neighbouring unit, a sheet metal worker, uses Duck oil a lot.

PlusGas is probably best for really stubborn stuff.
