Series II seats in a 1957 4 door?

Post by alloriginal1owner »

I'm a little confused by searching new seat covers for my Milly. She's a 1957 4 door, so there should be seat models like they were from 1956 to 1959. I've got an interesting offer, but the dealer says my photo shows series II seats. Those always had a folding back. I thought my driver's seat had a fixed back, but I'm not sure. I can't have a look now, because the car with only that seat is in a garage for welding and I won't see it before next week.

What do you see on these pictures – series II or the later ones?

Thanks a lot!

Frank

Your seats are correct for an early Minor 1000 4door deluxe saloon and yes, they are very similar to the Series 11 seats. The Series 11 didn't have the light coloured piping.

From looking at the Newton Commercial website, those seats are the later series 2 seats. Have a look:

As ManyMinors says, they are different to the late SII seats which don’t have the coloured piping. They don’t seem to be listed on the Newton Commercial website, despite being right for the car

I once had a car with red leather and off-white piping but one of the seats was destroyed. I got another (second-hand) one but the piping wasn't coloured, so I mixed some vinyl paint and painted the piping to match the rest of the seats. Bit fiddly but it did the job perfectly.

I found an upholsterer who had one matching set in stocking. He then put the white pipings on and it looks at least as nice as the originals. The price was absolutely fair. I’ve not received the covers yet, the photos are made in the workshop. When I have got the parts and they are fine I will post a link to that upholstery.
