Marina and Ital parts
After a bit of discussion with Marina Owners Club I have decided to create this posting for both clubs mutual benifit.
If one of our club members is trying to get hold of an engine, disc brake, axle or wheels etc from either a Marina or Ital they sometimes have members that may have the spares required that they are willing to sell.
Also it would be appreciated that if one of our members comes across a cheap doner car that they have purchased, rather than just take the bits and scrap the rest it should be offered to the Marina Owners Club as they may have a member with the bits you need and may be prepared to do a straight swop, so that the car is saved and you get the parts without having to dismantle the car therefore doing both the clubs a service.
So please bear this in mind as the Marina - Ital cars are becoming rather thin on the ground and we are when all said and done all part of the BMC family

Thanks Kevin.
Well you can see who i am from my sig.
Ther are cars in the club that can not be saved, having said that ther parts can save others, INC reclamed body pannels.
Last year i GAVE a roof pannel to a chap that could not get one, his minor is now on the road after being off for 20 years. I spent about 3 hours unpicking it and stored it for a number of years. All be caus the car was past saving but the roof as far as i no is not available. From time to time i do get given minors to scrap/strip/pass on to sombody to save.
Thats enough for now.

The link to their website is
http://www.fastmarinamagazine.com/
Just place an enquiry in the relevant section of their message board just the same as you would do here
Like us there is no first point of contact or particular person that keeps certain types of spares

Re: marina+minor
I occasionally pick up Marina parts when buying joblots of spares to get the Minor parts. Sold a lot on to Andrew Eggleton last year but currently have a set of 1275 oversize pistons , headgasket sets, 2 handbrake cables and various ignition parts.gbs100 wrote:hello after owning 2 morris marinas for the last 18 years i have just got myself my first minor.i was stunned to find out how much new stuff you can buy .its very hard to find an new bits for my marinas.so if anybody has any marina spares please let me know.

My brother-in-law, who bought one new in 1972, may have a different view; must check with him sometime...

Re: Marina and Ital parts
Now, that is a statement which will divide people! Having experienced them when brand new and having had to fix all the broken ones when working for a dealership leaves me with a different view. I also had 2 or 3 as company cars and am very happy that I don't any more.
We sold lots of Marinas to patriotic buyers who, even then, realised that the Marina was perhaps an "adequate" car at best.....
Certainly none of our Directors ever chose to run one
I think nostalgia allows people to look back through rose tinted spectacles sometimes
Now. The Morris MINOR really WAS a great car!

Hi,Thanks Kevin, much appreciated.
What a great idea and long overdue, too many Marinas have died just so that they could be stripped of their 1275 units.
And not all of them cars that were fit only for the scrap heap I'll warrant......
No rose tinted spectacles here, I've owned two and, whilst not the best of cars, they deserved a better reputation than they had.
For anyone interested, the links below are what is listed online for sale at present. Plenty of parts on ebay too, including a rear wing (quarter panel?) for a Coupe (last link) for £300.
I shall keep any eye out.
Best wishes,
Mike.

Re: Marina and Ital parts
They did make over 1.3 million Marina/Itals, so may be that's why you had fix so many broken ones There are so few left now, that I think those remaining should really be saved when possible.ManyMinors wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 2:18 pm Now, that is a statement which will divide people! Did anyone expect them to be more than "adequate" car? You could buy a new Ital for less than a Mk 1 Nissan Micra, and that was a much smaller car. Granted, the Micra was probably mechanically and electrically more reliable, but they certainly still used to rust in bad places. I think for most people the Marina was simply just a cheap and easy to fix, family or company car. All the Directors I knew used to run Jaguar XJ6's
Compared with many of its contemporaries I'm not convinced the Marina was that bad. Did anything else endure much better? Ask the question... Of all the really popular car models from the 70's and early 80's how many do you see driving about today? I suppose it shows the endurance and appeal of the Morris Minor, the fact that there are so many still in regular use! So I certainly agree, The Morris Minor really is a great car!

Re: Marina and Ital parts
Thanks goodness that not all Marina & Ital's have been saved from the scrap heap otherwise what would I do as regards parts for my Minor.
This morning I have been modifying & machining Marina/Ital thick front suspension arms/parts which will replace the Minor front thick suspension arms which includes installing rose jointed anti-roll bar links.
The web of the Marina/Ital thick suspension arm is near 6mm thicker than the Minor thick arm so is able to be machined and drilled with little risk. The later Ital thick & thin arms are additionally factory drilled with a 7/16" hole to accommodate the anti-roll bar link. I have drilled a 3/8" hole in a Marina thick arm (which does not have the additional 7/16" hole) to accommodate the mounting bolt for the 3/8" rose joint.
The Marina thick suspension arm can be fitted to the Minor with very little work - so long as you have salvaged those parts off the Marina you have just scrapped.
A factory quirk I have found this morning is that some suspension bolt holes are drilled 10mm and have 7/16" UNF bolts passing through which then results in a loose bolt fit. So where necessary I have fitted metric bolts to make sure that everything is nice, snug and well fitted.
