MOT Exemption

Post by radioactiveman »

Hello,

My MOT is due to expire sooner than I'd thought, and while I fully intend on getting another one, the timing is a bit rubbish so I was going to put it off for a few weeks. Am I correct in my understanding that I just don't need to bother getting one and I'll be legally fine... I don't need to apply for an exemption or anything?

Thanks :tu1: :D

You're fine.
It's a weird thing about the 'Exemption'.
You don't actually declare it to DVLA for them to record, you simply make the declaration when renewing the annual Tax.
It would make much more sense of it was recorded.

If I use the MOT Checker on my car it show a warning:
This vehicle's MOT has expired
You can be fined up to £1000 for driving without a valid MOT
This vehicle may be MOT exempt, for more information refer to MOT exemption guidance
How useless a system is that??

Yeah, it does seem a bit of an odd system :-?

Fair enough, I will continue with my plan. The chances of me driving more than a few miles seems slight anyway
