Hi all,
Making some progress on restoring minor no 2 at the moment. I bought a new rear wing a while ago (heritage) from ESM - it appears to be pre-coated in some sort of black primer, but i've noticed in some spots it's bubbling with rust underneath!!
When i went to wipe it clean with alcohol for prep, it also dissolved on the cloth. Assume this stuff should be stripped off prior to paint?

It is most likely to be preservative, so yes all traces must be removed before painting.

Personally, I would go back to ESM and ask what the covering on the wing is.
Alcohol in my experience will dissolve whatever covering is on the wing.
Recently bought body parts from ESM were covered in black primer not preservative.

Depends on what the paint is, some panels come in a good quality primer others some cheap nasty stuff, if it wipes off with celly thinners it is the nasty stuff and needs to all come off.
