Gearbox filler access

Post by Mark Wilson »

Probably a daft question, but is it humanly possible to get to the gearbox filler/level plug from below, even using a lift if necessary, rather than lifting the carpets?

My reason for asking this is that I have just fitted a beautiful but totally impractical interior in biscuit, including the carpet. Any oily marks would break my heart! I've fitted a remote brake fluid reservoir to avoid (or at least minimise) having to lift the driver side carpet, and I intend to lubricate the steering rack by injecting oil in the gaiters rather than via the nipple in the passenger side floor.

If you lift out the passenger carpet to remove the rubber floor plug to access the gearbox filler, how will you get oil on carpet?

Yes, just get the carpets out the way with clean hands, be careful when filling (use a funnel), mop up any drips afterwards, and make sure your hands are scrupulously clean before replacing the carpet......

Some people seem to be naturally clean and tidy, some just seem to make a mess whatever they do. Guess which type I am... :-?

Thanks all!

Yes, you can, I use a Sealey-AK47-Suction-Syringe and a 2-post lift.
