Rear spax telescopic shocks

Post by Grumpy21 »

Good morning collective hive mind, another conundrum.

My recently acquired 68 2 door has spax telescopic shocks all round fitted by a previous owner. The rears appear to be weeping slightly and may need replacing prior to me MOTing it in the next week or two. The problem I have is I can’t find the type of kit that’s fitted listed on any of the usual suppliers., so I’m struggling to work out which shocks to order.

The kit I have has the shocks mounted between addition brackets below the spring plate (as usual) then sloping up and aft and fitted to the pin that would normally attach to the drop link top eye.

So does anyone know if these shocks are the same as the ones fitted to the kit that’s currently listed that uses the additional beam mounted across the car.

I bet a photo would help!

The rear dampers which use the mounting beam are not the same.
These are the SPAX dampers you need.

Thanks as always Phil. They would be more expensive than the ESM ones wouldn’t they! What are your thought on them? I find the ride a bit fidgety but getting better as I adjust the damping rate down and reduce the tyre pressures to 24psi.

The SPAX are good.
The angle of the damper is not as I would like but they work.
I have discarded the two rubber bushes per eye that came with the kit and have fitted Super Pro SPF0718-80K poly bushes which are one piece bushes.
The poly bushes are much better but are not cheap.
Your SPAX dampers will have the following numbers stamped on the base:-
G736 4A0

So you have a similar set up? And yes some of the rubber bushes are on their way out, serviceable for now but will need replacing over winter.
