Me too. The person I paid to respray my car clearly saw me coming as I paid more than that. Wish I'd realised!!!

So, EVEN if the job only took 50 hours of work (which is probably on the low side including all the prep required, but I don't know as I'm not a bodywork expert) and the materials cost £700, the hourly rate would be £6 / hour, which probably explains why not many people out there provide a respray at that cost!

But no overheads like garage rental, business rates etc. if spraying on someone's driveway!
Seriously though, there is something a bit odd about this thread - both 'Col. Chestbridge' who wanted a re-spray, and 'Key Shawn-Johnson', who claimed he had his car re-sprayed for £700 have disappeared from the forum after only six and four posts respectively. But I suppose that is not so unusual on here. A bare metal re-spray for £700 seems an impossibility to me these days.
I note that 'Key-Shaw Johnson' says "I will just continue to enjoy the decent prices in the part of the UK that I live in" which suggests that there is a range of people carrying out work for knock-down prices in that part of the UK. I wonder where it is? :-?

Hello all, I've not disappeared at all. Still checking in on the odd occasion/twice a year (as any normal person with hobbies, home joinery projects etc would) to see the embittered commentary on my factual posts and photos of my driveway resprayed car.
I'm not from the land of make-believe at all, honest! Whilst I'm not going to tell you who did my respray, my advice to those salt of the earth folk (not the nay-sayers, bullies and Mickey takers), is to look to the most deprived areas in the UK and try to track down an elderly bodywork expert who will respray your car as a labour of love. Build a rapport with the expert, explain your love of all things British and your desire to preserve a piece of history. Believe it or not, Britain has a history of being a pretty decent place with some who still exist with values other than unbridled greed and malice.
I for one am certainly not a rich person trying to get cheap labour but rather am of the same mindset of these decent hard working and somewhat eccentric respray enthusiasts. Think outside the box a little, speak with the head of your local Morris Minor club in person etc. That's what I did and it was he who recommended the wonderful chap who resprayed my car on his driveway for a fantastic price. It is definitely worth looking beyond the online forums and talking to people in person. Good luck to you all and keep the humble spirit of the Morris alive, they are and were cars for the masses.
