2 door sills information needed

Post by Thomas.hewitt05 »

Hi, I'm replacing my sills and I'm unsure what parts I need and how they fit.

On the car the 2 part panels you get are already welded in however the outer under sill panel appears to be missing and I cannot work out how it goes together.

Thanks.

Not much by the look of it :o
I reckon you need to purchase almost everything. That'll be a BIG job.
Have a look at some of the other restoration threads on here - and maybe there are some on youtube or similar?
Maybe a visit to a Morris Minor specialist if you have one near you who might let you have a look at a dismantled car undergoing similar work? Also might be able to show you the repair sections available and talk you through such repairs?
The "sills" or outer floor sections on a Minor are fairly complex and involve a number of panels and repair sections which have to be assembled carefully in the correct order. There are also some good restoration books available with useful photos and instructions.
Good luck if you decide to tackle it yourself.

The outer undersill is what the sill rail bolts on to. The original sections seem to have been removed from the car pictured at some time and replaced by some fabricated repair sections.

What ever you do, make sure you brace the door frame ....A post to B post... with a strong metal bar. The last thing you want is for the whole area
" getting out of shape " when you remove the whole sill area. The aim is for the door to fit the aperture after you've finished welding.
( The assumption is that the door " fit " , is good to start with )
Being a belt and braces man I started by measuring everything before welding in the bar. You need to leave sufficient height above the sill , so that
the bar doesn't get in your way with the welding torch.
Be methodical and you will be OK.
