Calling Paignton

Post by Squiggle »

Hi

I might have a chance to move to Paignton!

Any comments good or bad regarding the town please?

Where would my nearest branch be?

Many thanks

Paignton is the junction between the main national rail network and the Paignton - Kingswear privately owned steam line. It's a very steep incline from Paignton and last time I was on the Torbay Express (steam hauled from Bristol Temple Mead by a Battle of Britain 4-6-0) we got stuck and had to be rescued by "Goliath", a local GWR 0-6-0 as a double-header. A great trip along the Dawlish sea wall. :D As with driving Moggies, it's great to see locomotives running at express speeds as they were designed to do.

Well, this is in the off-topic section  :D

Now there's a thought, a ride on a traditional train, with traditional Morris dancers, and a ceilidh, what more could a cultured person desire  OK, perhaps just some real ale thrown in

Time was I would have gone for the third. Could we make it a gig by the Pistols instead of the morris men and country dancing, though? :D
Anyhow, back to Paignton...

Well, I didn't think 'off topic' meant we could go off the topic addressed!

Thanks for the responses chaps.

It's OK once the topic has been addressed, and I had addressed it

But for once it wasn't me that took it off topic  :D

Paignton is a nice town with the sea and walks and of course the steam railway, but like a lot of places it can be let down by the falling standards of people living here.

Yes these old threads feature many people that we never hear from again. The Morris Minor perhaps just a passing whim.

Same as old wagons/trucks/lorries being given a bit of welly...."enthusiastic" gearchanges etc.
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!
