Hi all i have just bought a minor van date of registration 01/01/1972 the owner has the old type reg document and it does not say tax exempt how do i go about this, checking on the dvla web site the van was last taxed in 1987 so been in a barn for 20years, though has 56,000 on the clock the van is all complete although rusty but has everything else as original seats door cards seat belts and pleanty of spares
The easiest way is to get an MOT then take all the paperwork to your local DVLA office and they will do it on he spot. BUT you must have a current MOT first.
This message board is like a family - you can't choose the other members!! But remember engine oil is thicker than water.
Any vehicle manufactured before 1 Jan 1973 gets road tax exemption - even if it wasn't first registered until later, provided proof of that manufacturing date can be provided - it qualifies.
