The metal fabrication is amazing as usual Taupe. I really like the stainless fuel pipe cover. How much are you charging for them? :D

In regard to the brass threaded sleeves, I assume this is going to be a show car and kept dry so it probably isn't relevant but I wouldn't advise using any sleeves in timber as it encourages damp and then rot. It would definitely be advisable to pre-drill the holes for the sleeves before the treatment stage of the timber prep then fill the holes with treatment and let them soak over night.

I hope I'm not taking a liberty! I can hear my Dad saying something about sucking eggs.

Thanks Dave..Yes a soak in treatment is a good idea before fitting the inserts

I made a template for the axle perch yesterday but then decided that a spare axle casing I had could donate its original one!!
I will keep the template in case I ever need to make one..

Spot the differences between these two 1098 axle casings..I found ’Five’ detail differences :)

One is off my 62 trav, the other my 63 rose taupe..both are stamped 9/38 next to the axle number ..this confirms they are both 1098 axles.

Is the earlier one with the triangular shaped fillets a carry over from series 3 ??

Here is the inside which will get a thorough wash out tomorrow and the diff unit which despite the black oil has very good gear teeth and little backlash :) :)

Hi

I have cleaned out the axle casing and diff unit

I've now finished the axle perch repair and after fitting a new gasket, bolted on the diff unit and sprayed the axle in etch primer

I stripped off the old grease, waxoyle and dirt from the propshaft at the same time and checked the spider bearings for play...none was apparent but there was a very slight roughness so I decided to replace them whilst I could .....and it made it easier to clean off.

Two new bearings from ESM complete with extended grease nipple and British made.. very impressed with quality and price and tapped out the old ones. They did have slight ridges on them so I'm glad I replaced them, though they would probably have been good for a few more thousand miles..

Propshaft now painted and greased and ready for fitting :)

Hi

Ive started the process of replacing the wheelarches and have finally got around to fitting the rearmost spring hanger repair panels I made ..a long time ago...

First I cut off the old flange and started making two new ones.

I then lined up and welded in the n/s chassis repair

I opened up the o/s..

Drilled the spotwelds out and removed the remains of the inner wing..then set about repairing the suspension damper pin using a brass rod and plugged a small hole in the bracket

I then trial fitted the repair panel made earlier

To get a correct fit the edge of the floor panel shown sandwiched above has to be trimmed off...

The repair is then clamped for welding after checking the centres for the springs..43 3/8" both sides

And tried the tie down plate for fit as this needs to be spotwelded to the wing before fitting..

Hi

Trial fitted the rear wing tonight... after a bit of jiggling around it seems to fit quite well so Im doing some lining up using the timber and rear floor before doing any welding...

I think it was worth changing the whole rear wing rather than having lots of patch repairs..

some people are very gifted!! Im amazed and feel quite useless looking at what you have done, im struggling affording a welder to fix my inner wings never mind do what you guys are doing, your extremely privileged to have all that you do and your knowledge and understanding reiterates my inability.

It is called a 'closing panel, side-to-floor'.

Here it is listed by one supplier; others will have it too.

I am also very impressed with and inspired by Taupe's work.
You can tell he is serious about getting the bodywork right when you see in a photo that he has been using vernier calipers.

Iv actually had some time to look through other members posts . Your a dab hand at metal work. A true crafts man , it's great to see . I'm looking forward to seeing more of your skills and the finished Morris . It's safe to say ,it's going to be a prime example
