A 2010 LEO Run?

Post by Judge »

Since cancelling this years LEO Run there has been considerable interest shown in bringing the event back for 2010. The note in the latest issue of Minor Matters has also brought about a number of emails being received on the subject.

If this event is to take place, then early planning is vital. So could everyone definitely interested in taking part please send their e-mail address, full name, number of entrants, and accomodation preferences to me at bill.hewlett@mmoc.org.uk

As on previous occasions the intention would be attend the Orkney Vintage Club rally in Kirkwall at the end of the run.

Thank you,

Bill

Although I have received a few emails and 'phone calls etc, as yet I do not feel it is worth all the work involved in oganising a LEO Run for 2010.

It's up to you!!

Come on you lot, get out of those armchairs. Or am I right that many of you prefer talking about and/or working on your cars to driving them?

No :-? Some of us can't commit to something so far in advance without knowing the dates or checking work commitments. My holidays are always booked 'last minute' - I can't plan anything too far in advance.

Thought that might get some response Louise  But what you have to also consider is that an event like this likewise can't be booked on a 'last minute' basis :-?

If you have ever taken part in MOT you will know how far in advance this has to be booked.

I started this thread early based on what happened last time. To organise visits, accomodation, ferries etc does take time. Sorry.

Lands End to Orkney travelled over a period of a week ending up at a classic show in Orkney and stopping at places of interest throughout the journey, usually in August.

Thanks Lou.

I have now organised two of these runs, 2007 and 2008, and both seemed to be very much enjoyed by those that took part.

These links should give you some idea of what it is all about.

I have now had a number of enquiries about a possible LEO Run next year.
I have decided that if this is to go ahead, to allow for the arranging of accomodation, ferries etc, I will be making the final decision in January/February 2010.

Update - At the moment a 2010 LEO Run looks possible. A number of those taking part in the recent MOT-UK have also voiced their interest.

Having just got back from Orkney, I thought I would let those that have previously done the LEO know that this years rally was dry and sunny, with a record entry. Also that the ferry company now have a lovely new catamaran

I have just had it confirmed that next years Orkney Vintage Rally will take place on Sunday 15th August.

With this in mind, next years LEO Run will start from Lands End on Sunday 8th August.

I may have to miss the LEO in 2010 as I'm really keen to do the 5 Capitals and there's not a lot of time in between.
It's a little frustrating to hear that the year the LEO wasn't run, there was a dry Orkney rally! For those who've never been, think of taking sowesters and large umbrellas in case the normal Orkney weather blows in for a few hours. ;-)

A bit of an exageration I think Ray, but sensible clothing yes

In Britain if you wait for the right weather you will never do anything, and this year has been a particularly good case in point.

Hopefully I shall soon be able to email an update to all of those that have shown an interest in next years event.
Please note that if you do not receive an email within the next 2 weeks, unfortunately you're not on my list.

So if you do not receive an email, and are interested, please PM me asap.

Just a quick update. I have now requested that the club recognise next years run as an official MMOC event and that it be covered by their insurance policy.

Hi.
Next years LEO Run will start from Lands End on 8th August and, after visiting a number of attractions en route, will finish at the Orkney Vintage Club Rally on 15th August.

This will be the third such run, and families have taken part previously.

If you are interested in taking part, please send me your email address by PM, and I will keep you updated. A number of others have already put their name down for this event already.
