Mine has a pressed piece of steel with an angle on the bottom. A long bolt passes through this to a captvated nut on a bracket welded to the boot floor. Pretty sure it is standard fitment.

hub caps

Post by Willie »

I have the tool shown in 57's picture although it is not a flat
piece of steel, it is concave along its entire length to give it
strength. It works perfectly and couldn't be simpler. I have
always assumed that it came from an early Mini as none of
my many Minors ever had one. It's a lot easier than
undoing the spare wheel clamp!!

i usually use the end on the wheel brace, but rather than lever the hubcap off, i hook it under and pull it, holding a hand infront to catch it when it pops off, and i fall over backwards!

With the greatest respect to your branch chairman Kevin, I must say it's very big of him to confirm my picture is correct. What else could it be, a forgery? :( :-?

 @ 57 Now, now, children... play nicely!

I reckon I'll stick with my claw hammer, for the time being... don't know that the wheel retaining bracket would stand heaving off the hub caps - especially that very tight one on the front...

Sorry - but it got right up my nose that I took the time and trouble to post a scan from my car's original driver's handbook and some local branch chairman decided to verify it's authenticity as though his seal of approval would prove it correct.

Sorry - but it got right up my nose that I took the time and trouble to post a scan from my car's original driver's handbook and some local branch chairman decided to verify it's authenticity as though his seal of approval would prove it correct.
Back to the begining at our last comittee meeting 26 Feb this subject came up, I then did a post on 2 March.
4 March, The originator of the article responded with a photo of the wheel clamp being used.
5 March, 57 then enclosed his scan.
Luchtime that day I was chatting to my chairman who said the same thing as 57, although until after lunch I had not seen his posting.
I then gave a summary of the 4 different measures including agreeing with 57.
7 March Then 57`s 1st Response
8 March 57`s 2nd Response

Well this will raise a good laugh, my chairman was responding to my initial comittee question and is not connected to the web and has not even seen these postings, so he was not confiming a picture he has not seen or giving his seal of approval as knows nothing of these postings.

I admit my wording could have been better but to get out of your pram in such a big way over someone agreeing with you !
Just because someone help`s out on a club commitee (many of us on here do) should not make them a political target, this is a club run by volunteers (including this website) who do it for the love of the cars and try where possible to help others and share knowledge.
Remember those of us who are on commities are not doing it for STATUS but mainly because others will not offer any help in running local branches and would soon fold without the volunteers.

I shall now get off my soapbox.
Cheers

"Just spoken to our branch chairman who says that on checking up 57's diagram is correct,"
How else is this meant to be interpreted?

'Bye all.

Can we keep a lid on this, please guys? I know it's difficult to make a clear meaning meant on here, but I think we ought to call it a day on this one. :-?
