charles ware morris minors
Can I sing the praises of this company? Quick story:- My cylinder head gasket failed so I thought I would treat Morris to an
unleaded head. Over the 30 years I have had the car I have bought most of myfrom them.,But, I still shopped around. In the end I bought one from them. I had it sent straight to my garage to be profesionally fitted. It failed after only one hundred miles,
I had to be towed home! Charles Ware had it returned to them at their expense, sent a replacement by return, and OFFERED TO
PAY MY GARAGE EXPENSES for the rplacement to be fitted! How good is that for service? This is the motor trade after all.

It's rubbish service! It shouldn't have failed in the first place. Search back the forum to see what others have experienced with this Company!

Re: charles ware morris minors
It must have been pretty bad to have failed - what exactly was wrong with it?
Don't think this company does itself any favours these days in the Minor community.

Re: charles ware morris minors
Maybe given so many bad comments about them this year they are keepn to impress.
Great that they respsonded well for you and even stumping up the garage fees. I would expect that kind of service as matter of course for any faulty part.
Nice to see a good tale of CW they seem to be quite rare

Re: charles ware morris minors
I'd look upon that as a starting point for negotiations. (I've had a little good fortune with lawyers in recent years!)OFFERED TO
PAY MY GARAGE EXPENSES
Would I be right in assuming that their head dropped a valve or a seat and mangled your engine? That is how I read your post.

Re: charles ware morris minors
Sounds like excellent service. Most warranties exclude anything other than replacing the faulty part.

Re: charles ware morris minors
...unless it has wrecked the rest of the engine? A bit more detail in the story might persuade me.
If I bought a new kettle and it caught fire and burnt down the house, a new kettle might not be enough compensation to satisfy me.

Re: charles ware morris minors
Ref. cylinder head failure. There was no damage to the engine. I think it boiled down to a broken valve spring. Surely these things can happen? I can"t help but feel well treated by the company! martin my garage man said I was lucky!

Re: charles ware morris minors
I'd say you were treated well too.
Plenty of places would have denied all responsibility or, at best, just replaced the head.

Re: charles ware morris minors
Broken valve spring ??? That suggests they had reused a nasty old spring ......... And since I doubt the head was 'inexpensive' - you should have expected everything to be new!
Re: charles ware morris minors
Doesn't suggest anything of the kind - New parts can fail unexpectedly.

Re: charles ware morris minors
Not if they are good quality parts! I've only ever had one valve spring fail in all my years with A series engines - and that was on a 'full race' 1340 engine - that was being hammered to all sorts of revs! Never ever even heard of a valve spring failure in a 'normal' A series - but lets' see if anyone else can report such a failure ? Perhaps more common than I think ??

Re: charles ware morris minors
I've never experienced valve spring failure in nearly 40 years of motoring - surely sub standard components being used here.

I thought we weren't supposed to talk slightingly about Minor upkeep companies?
Remember...while we may have low or high opinions of some Moggie specialists...they're all focused on the same goal we are: keeping these great little cars on the road for a long time to come. Maybe CW is trying, and that's got to be worth something.
Of course, since I'm four thousand miles away from the nearest Moggie specialist, they ALL sound wonderful to me.

The way to a man's heart may be making food, but the way to my heart is buying me car parts!
Come read about my Minor at An American Moggie.

Re: charles ware morris minors
While we can speculate about what might have caused a valve spring to break I think that the response was exemplary.
I was going to say I don't recall seeing a broken valve spring but thinking about it I'm pretty sure I have when rebuilding a head.
It had broken in such a way that the spring still operated but let the valve burn out.
As the head was getting serviced it was a trivial matter to replace it, which made it less memorable.

Re: charles ware morris minors
Charles Ware like any other Moggie specialist or anyone else in business, is operating primarily for only one reason; to make a profit, not to keep these cars on the road. That's a romantic view. No profit no business, and that's how it has to be. The quality of service and extent of the profit/mark up, is a different matter.

What's happening? This thread starting by complimenting the good services of a company by taking pot-shots at them. Is this allowed? Is it fair?

Correction. I meant to say this thread started by complimenting the good services of a company and continued by taking pot-shots at them. The gremlins got in the way, sorry!

They'll need quite a few positives to combat the negatives of late. Hope they're learning and listening.
Strange that i't's non UK residents and moderators defending them though.
