Floor seat belt stalk mountings
Do you have to bolt the seat belt stalks to the floor? Reason I ask is that I'm thinking about new seat belts with stalks (not webbing type as originally fitted), the originals just bolted to the rear floor pan to a reinforcing square spot welded to it- I would have thought the transmission tunnel would have been a stronger place to mount them, I had a Mk 1 Escort and they were fitted there.
Any ideas or improvements?

i used the stalks from a rover metro,114 found in a scrapyard, you have to bend the mounting bracket slightly to the propshaft tunnel contour and two big washers on the underneth side to spread the load, use nylock nuts to secure

Hi,
I have mounted seat belt stalks to the tunnel as shown in photo (sorry photo a bit fuzzy). The position of fixing is dependent on the length of the stalk, the buckle need to be in the correct place as indicated by the instructions with the seat belts. Just make sure you miss the hand brake cables. I have a large thick washer on inside and a plate with fixed nut on the underside of the car, plate provided by most suppliers.

Hi,
I think DaisyMayFozz has just inadvertently cleared up a little mystery for me: I have long wondered why the rear part of my transmission tunnel had four evenly spaced small self tapping screws in it under the carpet................. the spacings match what I see on hers................. though I'm glad to say the ashtray itself is long gone, don't want to encourage that...............
Best wishes,
Mike.

That's a good set up on Daisy-Mae,Chris-the position looks like it well clears the propshaft, what car are the Securon parts out of, or are they off the shelf jobs? Oh, and do you have any pics of the inertia reel fitting? I'm going to drill and weld reinforcing plates while the car is still on its side and have good access to the underside.

Not an ashtray on mine, took the lid off, and now serves as a handy pocket to keep the pound coin in for the trolley! ;)jagnut66 wrote:though I'm glad to say the ashtray itself is long gone, don't want to encourage that................

Re: Floor seat belt stalk mountings
They were fitted when I bought the car but they are the off the shelf jobbies from all the suppliers. As for the inertia reels- It doesn't have them! its got statics, but I do have an inertia reel set to fit which has the same seat belt stalks. Ill take pictures of how the statics mount anyway later.
As for the ashtray all it does is look pretty with its chrome top haha

Re: Floor seat belt stalk mountings
Do you have the photos of the seat belt installation? I've also sent you a pm.
Thanks

You may get lucky but, as the previous post was nearly 10 years ago, it would seem unlikely - all the posters in this thread (apart 'jagnut') have been absent for many years now. You may get a better response if you start a new thread asking for advice about seatbelts........
