Details of Last Traveller to be made

Post by Oddball67 »

Does anyone know the details of the last traveller to be made?

Received a phone call tonight from a chap who wants to sell his original, unrestored and apparently in immaculate original condition. 30,000 miles from new with all supporting info.

Claims it the last one to be made, but as it's a 'J' reg, I'm not so sure...????

Going to take a look at the weekend.

Not even sure what it may be valued at?

1294082 makes sense, 1294100+ and things get messy.

According to Skilleter 1,294,082, April 1971. This is unconfirmed as records were destroyed

Late Travs were certainly registered with "J" suffixes. Remember that date of registration is not directed related to date of manufacture.

Slightly off topic, but there is a very sorry looking J reg traveller parked in a hedge in a driveway of a house in Halstead,Essex.

Last one made marked down as 4/71, so 3 months to make the August deadline, so possibly "J" regd.

Wasn't there an ragbag "L" regd one for sale on here some while back?!

We'll see what Oddball comes back with!

A lot of travellers were at the dealers for months lying there before being registered mainly Limeflower ones which are very rare now

There is a local club member who has a beautiful limeflower traveller, a late model as well. One of my favourite colours that really suits the traveller (along with BMC black BK-1 of course!!)
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

Does one with a higher chassis number survive?

There's been quite a few articles / letters in the club magazine over the years regarding late travellers. The 'youngest' surviving one identified so far is chassis no: 1290476 - sixth from the end of production. Owned from new by a club member and with a 'K' reg.

You mean 1294076, Louise!

Was the body & engine number of this noted?

Chris - the engine & body numbers weren't noted. Have you thought about writing something for the club magazine to say what you're collecting, and why? You'd reach a lot more Minor owners than just making internet requests :D

I did ask to do a feature/request in the LCV Mag, but was refused
owing to me not being a member!

Does the MMOC share the same view?

To be honest, it's a bit odd that no-one else has done research on
Minor body numbers when on many other Classic Cars, it has!

Who owns 1294076, is the owner contactable?
