Practical Classics MM restoration.

I have just acquired a stack of these mags from the 1980s.I see that they restored both a saloon and a traveller over several months issues.I wondered if I would be infringing any copyright if I scanned the relevant pages and saved them in a friendly format to upload to my dropbox folder for anyone that asked to download?Or would this be a no-no?Would be a shame as I'm sure it would be a good aide.

I guess it depends on the way it is done because every piece of research that I use for my university work always states at the end after the copyright statement that:
However, users may print, download, or email articles for individual use.
For example:
Copyright of Modern Law Review is the property of Wiley-Blackwell and its content may not be copied or
emailed to multiple sites or posted to a listserv without the copyright holder's express written permission.
However, users may print, download, or email articles for individual use.
Copyright of Nature is the property of Nature Publishing Group and its content may not be copied or emailed to
multiple sites or posted to a listserv without the copyright holder's express written permission. However, users

Hmm the "individual use" may be the stumbling block?Although I suppose many individuals is just an individual many times over?

I'm up for a copy please, when you do it! :) For my own use, of course.... I'll read it and then send it back if you like - just a loan then... I suspect it would only be a problem if you were 'selling' the downloads. Does copyright go on for ever anyway? These mags are 30+ years old now....

As long as its legal(which I'm hoping will become clear from some knowledgeable forum user) I'll happily put them up for anyone to download for nowt!

Definitely not legal!

The magazines may be 30 odd years old, but copyright lasts much longer -it used to be 70 years from the death of the Author, but I think it may have been extended.

Just call Practical Classics to ask for permission; they certainly won't lose money over you sharing their old articles and might even gain new readers. Let them know your intention is not to sell or gain money but just to share the information with more people restoring similar cars.

" they certainly won't lose money over you sharing their old articles"

They might not see it that way as they reprinted the traveller series as a book, so its potential book sales they may be concerned about, though I'm not sure if its still available.
Ithink the traveller resto series was around 1991 as I was running a tatty traveller at the time and reading the next installment whn I should have been revising for exams... :-?
IIRC, they had various parts of the restoration done at different Minor specialists and then were surprised when it went for new wood and the wood didn't fit because the car was welded to a slightly different shape. There was then a major tweak that involved cutting through the sills and the trans tunnel behind the B posts and bending the rear floor pan up till it ftted the new wood. :o It was a good series and I learnt a lot from it inc trial fit the wood when replacing floors and sills....

Anyway, it'd be interesting to hear what they say.

We used that book to restore the Traveller. I'm not certain it's still in print but I believe you still have to obtain permission from the original copyright owner.

Just had this reply from Practical Classics.I have told him that before making the download link available on here(thats if I get the OK from the webmaster)I will send it to him to make sure hes happy.I'll PM the webmaster with the news. That just leaves me to get it all scanned. If anybody has the missing 4 issues that would make it more complete but its still a good read without them. The email:

Hi Maria

As long as you can assure me that this will not be reused for any commercial purpose then that should be fine.

Oh well done, thats very good of them. Must have been another Minor traveller that they did in the early 90s then, I wasn't really reading it in the 80s, being only 10-12yrs old but I have seen some of the early Minor saloon instalments.

It would be great to see them - but I can't see how you could assure the editor that they would not be re-used for commercial use? Afterall a garage who isn't sure how to (lets say...) adjust the rear door latch could find the website, look at the appropriate pages in the article and then charge the customer for this information?
