Hello all. I recently replaced my fan belt and it was adjusted to the recommended tension. However, as I was informed, the belt has slackened off (A great lot) ! I hadn't noticed until the car wouldn't start and there was no voltage at the battery. I have tightened the belt and the battery d on charge.
so in a nutshell, if the belt was slipping on the dynamo, would this cause the battery to run flat?
Hope this all makes sense.
Kyle
Battery running flat because the fan belt was too slack?

Yes! Perhaps the nuts werent fully tightened after changing it.
Also if the pulley on your dynamo is rusty it can stretch the belt quite quickly, maybe within 100 miles or so.

I made sure the nuts were tight this time. So when the battery has had a good charge I will try again!
Thanks

All sorted, started first time after tightening the belt up and charging the battery. Went for a good run and all is fine! (for now)
Thanks for the help

Have you checked/verified that it is actually charging? Not just running on a newly charged battery.

Usually when a belt works slack there is a frenetic squealing as it slips, generally evident at this time of year when the frosts appear, if you didnt hear that then its unlikely, unless the belt fell off completely.

Cheapo belts stretch and stretch..... get a spare (and carry it in the car) and check that one again after a week or so.
