Bit of advice please, recently I have noticed a different sound to my 948 engine. When you rev it it sounds throaty, a bit like revving it without the air filter on. I have also noticed a slight oil leak on the l/h side of the engine just above the oil pressure switch on the cylinder head gasket area. There is no loss of power and have just fitted electronic ignition, the engine runs well.
Could it be connected? Could a cylinder head gasket fail and not affect the performance?
Thanks.

I'd look at the joint where the exhaust pipe joins the manifold first.

Re: Cylinder Head Gasket
Top Marks to Marky B, its where the exhaust meets the manifold. The clamp is tight but the exhaust moves inside it. I will get a new clamp at the weekend as it wont tighten any more.
Thanks Chaps.

Just 'dress' the clamp - and use a wipe of exhaust paste when you put the two together.

Re: Cylinder Head Gasket
Hold the joint in position whilst you fit the clamp with a jack in front of the silencer

And if all that fails-try this:

The original cast clamps are much better than the repro pressed clamps....been there.
