20/50 multigrade. If you want to spend money the Morris Lubricants (not related to Morris Minor) do a nice oil, but cheap stuff from Wilko / Roys / Homebase / wherever will be find for most older engines.

Used the Halfords classic oil for some years now after it was recommended to me.

I use 20W/50 and have used Castrol Classic and Halfords Classic, but am about to make the change to Morris Lubricants Golden Film 20W/50 through recommendation.

I would be VERY wary of the cheap stuff in ASDA/B&Q etc. Make sure it has an API rating of at least SE or SF / CC if it doesn't say on the container then it's likely to be recycled oil and best avoided!

I've used the Morris Lubricants 20/50 oil for some years. It has an excellent reputation and isn't expensive if you shop around.
I'm very happy with it.

I guess that some of the cheaper oils are just as good as the dearer stuff. Hard to tell though and the price difference isn't that much as a proportion of the total running costs of the car. I've been using Morris lubricants lately and the cars seen happy. I'm not that bothered about spending another few quid for peace of mind.

I buy Total or Elf 20/50 in Leclerc supermarkets in France for our daily working Minors which get more use than most folks Minors, and it's not expensive - so we actually pack some if coming to the UK in a minor 'just in case'!

Thanks to everyone who replied - much appreciated.

Went to B&Q and bought the only oil they had that was'nt synthtic or part synthetic. 20w-40w.

£10 for 5 ltrs so not expensive but certainly looks OK and genuine oil. Will let you all know how it goes.

Thanks again

Ok, but I'd have used 20/50 like everyone else does.

The oil in not as good as modern oils but as we change it every 3000 to 5000 miles it should be ok
