I have two holes, one in the front of the passenger footwell, covered by duck tape, and one on the passenger side of the transmission tunnel, not covered up at all.

Is it ok to cover these in the silent coat dampeners or should these be left open?

The round hole should have a blank rubber grommet. Keep the other one covered, I think there is a rectangular grommet that can be fitted.

The other hole, I can just go straight over the duck tape I guess? Is it for left hand drive?

Isn't the 2nd photo the hole for greasing/lubricating the steering box?
Fig P15 in the Minor Workshop Manual, shows it.
I don't believe any of the major suppliers offers a specific grommet for it.But measure the hole and see what you can find. Or just leave the tape there.

Incidentally, fig PP3 shows the cover for the Gearbox Filler.

You're clearly not inquisitive enough.
The first thing I'd have done would be to pull the tape off and see what was underneath.....

Les is correct. The taped hole has nothing behind it and originally would have been covered by a very thick piece of fabric tape. The gearbox filler access hole should indeed have a rubber bung fitted. Minors don’t have a steering box.

Perhaps that is the hole that has the small black bung in it.

Bottom line is....If it's a hole with something worthwhile behind it, like a filler plug or grease nipple, then get a bung to fit it, if you wish to.
If there is nothing to see behind it, then cover it and forget about it.

As already said. The large hole in the gearbox cover should have a grommet in it. The hole covered with tape is covering a hole not required on a right hand drive car, so can be permanently covered. The grommet above and to the right covers the access hole required to lubricate the steering rack

Now for the debate on EP90 v. grease to lubricate the rack!

Here goes, a starter for 10
Use a mix of EP90 and LM Grease.
Because there are no grease nipples at the pinion end of the rack oil is needed as grease on its own will not travel across the rack.

That could be seen as hedging your bets, Phil!
I suspect EP90 goes more gloopy over time left in the boots anyway.

Many thanks all! The duck tape one is now covered in deadening and the other two are still accessible.

These components are listed in the mechanical parts list pg MN6 and illustrated on plate N5...

There is a steel plate, rubber gasket and two screws nuts and washers...from memory these are 3/16 UNF phillips (items 32-36)

As stated the gearbox oil filler hole (listed in the body parts list) has a closed rubber grommet ACA 5300 which can be bought from usual suppliers, ebay etc

The steering rack grease/oil nipple access is via the other rubber blanking grommet which can be seen above and to the right of your dip switch hole (for LHD) and beside the N/S rack mounting bolts....

Thanks. I wasn't aware of this document. The hole is now covered up. Having a blanking plate might be good but I guess would have required drilling and so creating a rust risk. ACA 5300 sounds like a good buy though.

The AKD3542, Minor Body Service Parts List, which is only for 1000 models, is the parts document I would think of, which is easily found online as a pdf file download.
That also identifies the gearbox bung as ACA5300.

Can I ask about these two holes please? One looks like the old hole for the dimmer switch wire clip based on where it is. The other, between the two screws for holing the accelerator, I'm not sure.
