Morris Eight

I have recently sold my Minor and have decided to take a short break from Minor ownership.

I’ve got my eye on a Morris Eight instead. At least it shares its engine and various bits with the series MM.

Don’t suppose anyone else on here has one?

A friend of mine has one, had it for 30-40 years.

If you've not already thought of it, joining the Morris Register may be of some use to you, both with sourcing a Morris Eight and with spares for them.
Best wishes,
Mike.

I have never owned one as I had Austin 7s instead, but a few friends and colleagues have run them in the past. They were generally reliable and were well built little cars. Are you looking at a Series E or an earlier one? My advice would be to buy the best you can afford. Restoring the interior of any pre-war car is expensive too

Thanks for the replies. I considered an Austin 7 too, but I like that the Eight has hydraulic brakes and a supposedly better gearbox. It’s a Series E I’m looking at.

The seats aren’t too bad. They’ll do as is, but in time want improving.

They actually look very similar to the front seats on the early MMs. Do you know if they’re the same?

This is the car I’m looking at. I’ve basically offered to buy it, subject to inspection and test drive. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Morris-8-Se ... 635-2958-0

And I’ll give the Morris Register a look, thanks.

I’ve talked myself out of it! I was all set for buying it and had even bought my train ticket down, but on serious consideration another Minor really fits my intended uses much better.

Shame. I did love it. One day…

I can see the appeal of a Morris 8 (Or an Austin 7) but I DO think that a Minor or Minor 1000 does make a pretty unbeatable classic car in terms of practicality, affordability and driver appeal. Also, the availability of spare parts is almost unbeatable among cars of that period.

A beloved great aunt of mine had a Morris 8, but moved on to a Minor in 1957! 8)

Lots of lovely Morris Eights, though the last one (1937 Morris 8 ) looks like it might have been 'pimped'.................
Best wishes,
Mike.
