Window weather strips

Post by Vikingsven »

I have just bought the complete set to replace the worn out weather strips that fit either side of the wind up windows,
is there an easy way to fit them? or is it necessary to remove either the frame or window?

I think you just wind the window right down, prise the old strips and clips out, put the new strips in place and press the clips home with the flat blade of a screwdriver.

Good luck.

Pretty much what S/P said. From memory, it's necessary to remove the window stops, so that the glass drops well below the door top when fully wound down.
You don't mention if it's a 4 door if you're working on. If so, the rear doors are a bit trickier than the fronts, as the glass doesn't wind down quite as far as the front ones - still all eminently doable though without dismantling the door or the frame. :tu1:
TOP TIP: Arm yourself with a supply of new spring clips, as half the originals will almost certainly have rusted away or be very brittle. Also a magnet on a string or better still, a magnet on one of the extendable arial-type thingies, is a must, as you'll drop the new clips into the door bottom......until you get the hang of it. :D
