changing starter

Not on a minor....I have got to change a starter motor on a Skoda Fabia.

The battery and battery tray have to be removed to get to the starter motor. I do not know the radio code.

I don't want to mess around with a spare battery and jump leads etc.

If I just remove the battery, will I lose the radio code? Is there a time limit before the code disappears?

It might not be coded? But if it is the loss will be instantaneous! There are units that plug into the accessory socket to maintain codes etc, I know Draper do/did one.
