Bonnet handle
Hi all
Can anyone help with the thread side of the fixing stud on the bonnet handle ?
The nut I have fits but is loose, I have tried a 2BA and a M5 but neither of these fits, I believe it is a original handle and am assuming at the moment that it will be a imperial thread.thanks in advance

Re: Bonnet handle
From memory I believe they are 2BA.
1969 Traveller in Almond green. Owned since 1979.
Re: Bonnet handle
As above I also think they are usually 2BA but they might just be 3/16" UNF?
I think that it is also designated 10/32 UNF

Re: Bonnet handle
What "Ornament"?.......The Bonnet lift handle is the common term for The Engine Bay Cover Augmentary Ascension Device!
An ornament serves an aesthetic purpose only.
The thread on my HANDLE is 2BA by the way.

Re: Bonnet handle
Well I suppose it is really an 'ornament', as the handbooks recommend closing the bonnet by pressing down on the flatter parts either side of the domed part. An old-time mechanic once chastised me for closing the bonnet by pressing down on the handle and I have never done it since. One would never try and use it to raise the bonnet.

Re: Bonnet handle
I wasn’t trying to be awkward. I just have never used it as a handle and it doesn’t seem to be suitable as a handle so I thought it was an ornament really.

Re: Bonnet handle
Well, you got it right then! Although it is sometimes described as a 'bonnet lift handle', it not supposed to be used for that purpose, as I said previously.

Re: Bonnet handle
To end - or add to - any confusion, the BMC parts book calls it a "Flash assembly"
I think we all know what the OP was talking about though, whatever we choose to call it .

Re: Bonnet handle
Ah! Now all becomes clear! I've long wondered how van owners manage to open and close their bonnets; that explains it.

Just illustrating how the answers to a perfectly reasonable question get embellished with irrelevant twaddle on forums.

I quite agree. "The Bonnet lift handle is the common term for The Engine Bay Cover Augmentary Ascension Device!" being a prime example......Boomlander wrote: ↑Fri Mar 31, 2023 12:46 pmJust illustrating how the answers to a perfectly reasonable question get embellished with irrelevant twaddle on forums.

Re: Bonnet handle
Come, come, Mr. Boomlander - please don't expect to call people's comments " irrelevant twaddle" and not expect to get called out for it......

Re: Bonnet handle
I don't mind being called out for a tongue in cheek observation.
So often the original enquiry gets lost in "Irrelevant Twaddle" and I'm afraid I find it very amusing and am sometimes prompted to tweak the noses of the humour bypass brigade!.................Only Kidding?

Re: Bonnet handle
I see, although you couldn't resist another jibe ("the humour bypass brigade"). To be on the safe side, I will not take any of your future comments seriously. Thank you.
