But well worth restoring by someone with the time and skill set.
The link below is to a 1950 split screen van on eBay:

It's not one for the fainthearted but what you will end up with is a rare beast these days.
It is located in Warwickshire.
I hope an enthusiast on here takes it on and allows us to follow the restoration on here.
Best wishes.
And good luck to anyone on here if they do.
Mike.

Oddly enough, despite being rotten in the usual places, the cab looks to be in decent order but the rear body is another matter! Certainly not beyond restoration by any means and I'm sure someone will take it on. It's certainly not 1950 though.....

No. Not 1950 for sure and probably pretty hard to register if it has no numbers or paperwork? :-?

Looks like the engine bay has been completely stripped so I'd imagine the chassis plate is gone. The NMP plate may still be on the tie plate and if the cab isn't totally rotten, the number may still be stamped and legible but no engine number either. Tricky but not impossible to get an age related number. That may be the least of the worries with this one though !

Chassis nos stamped into b/head & cab number should be there BUT....a BIG but with lurpak on the boiled spuds & a nice salad with a blue cheese sauce...will need a log book to claim the original regn back!

Anyone recognise or identify the branding/stamping on the centre top of the O/S flitch panel?

It looks like GPO to me, perhaps the flitch panel was slightly different for the rubber wings.

I reckon you are right. I too think it reads GPO, stamped from the other side. Many of the early vans were GPO. I can't see the captive nuts present on the flitch, so maybe that was a difference? The GPO vans certainly had many differences in their specification.

No doubt somebody will buy it but there is SO much to do and SO much missing that it will not be an easy project sadly. Still, the new owner will have plenty of time to investigate its history while he's taking breaks from the welding and fabricating......

A few years ago it would have been a dream project but now it would be a nightmare!! Even if it came with boiled spuds, salad and cheese. :o

Identifying this van is ONE of my top 5 priorities!
You'll need to go and visit it, have a good look round and make notes then.
Fortunately the seller does include his contact number in the advert.
If you do post up what you find on here, it would be interesting.
And good if it spurs someone on to buy / restore it.
Best wishes,
Mike.

I am that brave fool new owner of which you speak 8) The van is here with me now and I will be returning it to full gloriousness. It’s “never been welded” if we ignore tiny tack welds hoping and failing to keep the roof on. I’m looking forward to the project...
