series 2 - massive water leaks

Bought my mates 1953.
Rebuilt engine later 1098, and box ...but challenged interior and paint. I've replaced a seized handbrake cable, two wheel cylinders and all the shoes - so it stops. I also cut off the rotten exhaust and replaced that.

It has a huge water leak, through what I think is the drivers door window. The glass moves in and out ( enough to get the end of my finger in)and while the bottom seal looks good, it has massive gaps at each end- surely not normal ?

The passenger door is similarly challenged but the window doesn't wobble quite so much

What do I need to seal it ? There are a bewildering number of seals and rubbers .....

I haven't ruled out the door seal

Ignore the little white spots everywhere .. i've been working on the bodywork with a DA.

The car certainly smells like a british car inside - I remember it from my youth !

Those are wrong, the seals are wrong. Should be felt excluder in the side channels and fabric weatherstrips. The current horizontal one might be OK and more effective but the correct weatherstrip is needed on the inside.

I must admit that in all my years of Morris Minor ownership I have experienced very little water ingress around the doors and door windows and - particularly on the Series 11 - most of the leaks involved the dreaded windscreen rubber
I'm sure it is worth a try with the door parts and it'll do no harm to replace them but.......

Well, OP says "It has a huge water leak, through what I think is the drivers door window." So it might be from somewhere else. Could be through the 'dreaded windscreen rubber', or via some hole(s) behind one or more of the wings. One way to check is sit inside when it is enting down with rain, or get someone to train a hosepipe on it, and see where the water first appears. I've had water in the back footwell in the past, leaking from the back window rubber and down behind the trim and then behind the back seat before. These leaks are not always easy to spot as the water can enter at one point, trickle along unseen and emerge somewhere else.

Well it could be anywhere .... the window seems the most obvious at the moment.

Between the window glass and the door frames, both side frames and top frame. Originally the seal was thick black felt like material.

Hi All

Sorry, bit late to this thread, but a question related.
I have just redone all the rubbers around my windows, not a nice job, but was quite pleased with the fit of most of the seals/rubbers etc.
I went for the fluffy seal inside the window and the later plastic wipe seals on the outside as this is what came off (its a 1970 van).

I am still left with quite large gaps in a couple of places - while water entering here would not enter the cabin, it should stay in the door and out of the drain holes at the base. I have cleaned drain holes, waxed inside of doors and made sure the door cards are as damp proof as I can, I wonder what folks do to seal these areas? I am thinking a little black plumbers silicon would work quite well?

The original type of drop glass seal sat inside the door so the gaps didn't stand out. If you use silicone make sure you get neutral cure, the smelly stuff contains acetic acid which can promote rusting, I have used black polyurethane to seal up gaps on my Range Rover seals and it seems to be holding up after 4 years. Use 2 or 3 layers of masking tape to build a ledge you can then get a even thicker layer with a nice straight edge.
