Hello,

I am restoring a 1949 MM saloon.

The previous owner has made several additional holes in the firewall to install various non standard components.

I want to close off the extra holes.

Can someone with a very original car, please show me detailed photos of the firewall showing all the holes please ?

I have a tourer that is a rolling shell in primer. If I get a chance, I'll photo the firewall in the daylight and post up some photos. Will try to do the same with my 49 saloon although can't vouch that it will be 100% original.

My 49 firewall while I was restoring it a while ago. It is a very original car with no extra holes. You can make out the holes you just need to look carefully. You will notice it hasn't got a heater, no holes for the heater pipes.

Apologies, much later than I had planned. A photos of either side of the bulkhead. Hopefully of some help.

Philip: Thanks for this, as I need the same info for "Clementine" which has several holes that are clearly not factory as well.

Your Tourer is seemingly pre-Feb 1949, with no RotoDip hole? We may have discussed this, can't recall, but if so ... golly!

As an aside - it is interesting to see and note the differences in the cross member below the battery box.
The additional damper brackets were fitted for the Luvax dampers but appear to have been carried over for the later type dampers.?

I will try and take some better photos in daylight when I get a chance. I'm guessing this bulkhead is largely original but can't confirm all of those holes are.

I so wish the car was an early 49 car but sadly not. I checked the records at Gaydon and the chassis number 38xxx confirms it's late Feb 1950. The car was exported in March 50 to Australia and later in life was fitted with ubiquitous Datsun engine and box. It was put back to original condition before we brought it back in from Queensland in 2020. I'm guessing the battery box has been replaced, possibly connected to the earlier engine swap ??? I'll need to check in daylight. The notion of finding a 48 or early 49 car in warmer climes still persists though!

Not to worry. Coming across to the NEC is a huge commitment, so very understandable. Will look forward to catching up in March though.
