the problems with my car arnt to extreme idol is rough... timings well out and carb needs tuning... it dosn't drive has what would apear to be a fule starvation problem... under acceloration coughs and splutters like it cant give the engine the fuel it needs and then you have to come off the peddle to make it run ok again ... then once hot it wont idol long before giving up completely. i am happy to use you friend matt but dont want to be in the situation what i am in every time i work on the car that i think i know what this can be and then not having a stock of parts have to put a part on order and then wait a couple days before i can fit then find out that it wasnt the problem at all. which was the thinking of taking it to a morris garage that might have the stuff on a shelf...

fair ewnough, though it does sound like tuning. James had a mini, a metro and has done lots of work on the OUMF http://www.oumf.org/ cars, so kmnows what he's doing.
it's your call, but he'll be returning to oxfrd the end of the month i presume

Any worthwhile mechanic will have all the bits to make your car run nicely - no need to order and wait etc! As he has worked with Minis etc - this lad will know the A series inside out...... Your problems sound very simple to fix - give him a try! And stay with him while he works with the car -and learn!
