Splitscreen Red PO van replaced by Blue Austin van

Post by gtt1951 »

The Splitscreen red "PO" van, originally pointed out to us by AUpickup in the "Cars for Sale" section, has now been replaced by a Blue Austin van.
This is the same eBay item number, and I had only just received the seller's picture of the engine bay!
Didn't know eBay allowed content substitution once an item number had been assigned.
For those that may have been following the original van, here is the picture of the engine bay (a number of mods)[frame]Image[/frame]

Rather appropriate - being it's in Post Office red!

But what about the change of van under the same item number? Take a look at
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331269163802? ... 1342wt_959

It is the same seller.

Its a classified ad, normal eBay rules don't apply...

My guess is he probably had a couple available, the red one being a split screen (and ex-Post Office??) would have more appeal, so probably has now sold privately - or he was made an offer after someone saw it on eBay, that he couldn't refuse.
So he has substituted the blue one.........
................ which if what I have been seeing recently will still sell for stupid money, despite being a wreck, because it's a van.

Yes - it does happen that people re-use an advert. Not just the classified ones either!

For an auction, it is just about outside of the rules, as ebay say that if you advertise it on an auction format, it needs to be actually available, and bids need to be honoured by both parties. Breaking certain unpublished rules can get you listing removed but fees will still be charged...

They have a policy (which you can't find in the publicised T&C's) where you can't say it is available elsewhere and therefore may be removed from auction. They ban this terminology except in the cars for sale section (where it IS allowed to say "available elsewhere / may be removed from auction") !?!?! Different rules apply to classified ad's, but again the full set of rules isn't available.

I had to delete the rest of my post before submitting , as despite being correct, that amount of observation (criticism) isn't allowed ;-)

This has now been bought for restoration!

Restored to what, that IS the question.
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

Reg number is PXX 313 - worked it out from the previous ads it had been in.
DVLA show it as taxed till September 1st 2016.
Date of 1st reg: 18 April 1989
Year of Manufacture: 1955.

Reported scrapped (Hull)

Reappeared with a 1969/70 Chassis/Fnt bulkhead, dash panel & roof (presumabubble PXX 313s original), with - either PGO 187 or PGO 373 - rear body.

Quite appealing in a grotesque sort of way....

Should there have been some words to explain the pictures that hoppydoffton posted up.
Are these current or historical?

Sorry for the lack of info. Pictures were taken in 1987/8 and were purely posted to illustrate the fact that I was the finder of PXX 313 & I rebuilt it onto a later van purely for the reason of using it to promote my business at the time.

Can you remember the id of the donor ex-PO utility which supplied the chassis/bottom half of cab - ditto for the rear body?

I suppose you didn't keep the original cab number tags for PXX 313? Missing the 28001-29200 batch codes?
