Has anyone painted their hub caps?
The reason I ask. My car is back. The wheels have now been painted black. I have a great condition set of the silver hub caps... but have 4 really scruffy ones - so was tempted to paint them black just to see how mean it would make the wheels look if they were all black inc hub caps. I wondered if anyone had painted ones on their car?? Would love to see if they have.

Silver for normal driving... then a quick change to black for the stealth approach.
Re: Has anyone painted their hub caps?
look good
did you sand the chrome down well?

Re: Has anyone painted their hub caps?
They were that scratched and scuffed didn't take much sanding that's for sure! Worst case scenario is I have to re-sand and give some more coats.
Re: Has anyone painted their hub caps?
i had some old hub caps sandblasted and then painted them.
the paint lasted years,
but painting on chrome wont last long if not
keyed well

Re: Has anyone painted their hub caps?
I've done my hub caps scarlet to match the rad grill; it looks pretty horrible but my grandchildren can't tell a Ford Fiesta from a Rolls Royce but they can certainly spot the car in the car park with the red hub caps! Oh, the sacrifices we have to make!
Like yours, mine were so rusty that when they were cleaned up and the rust killed I had an excellent surface for painting.
Regards, MIkeN.

Morris Minor, the car of the future. One day they will all look like this!

Stainless steel is the way forward with hub caps. Cleans and shines just as good as chrome........

................ but only for about 6 months or so, I believe, because there was a shortage of chroming materials in 1951.

Re: Has anyone painted their hub caps?
I've only ever painted the inside of hub caps -as mine started rusting on the reverse!
Stainless is indeed the best option, but I've never found them to be very shiny.
