Highest Mileage Ever?
Hello there everyone
I have recently been going through my cars receipts, MOTs, service books etc as I have them all (very nice addition to the car) and have discovered that my car is in fact on its FOURTH time around the clock. 301,340 at present.
Made On Sept 1st 1967.
By 1972 the service book shows 89,000
By 1979 the service book shows 84,000
By 1983 An MOT shows 32,000
And then everything tends to slow up...
1994 = 78,000
1999 = 87,000
2002 = 95,000
2010 = 97,500
2011 = 97,805
Present = 1,340
Has anyone else achieved such high mileage with their car on the records?
I am astounded because Penny hasn't ever had a new engine or gearbox (all the numbers match to the chassis) and there is no receipts or records of any reconditioning either! She still happily purs along at 60 on the motorways!

Re: Highest Mileage Ever?
Mine is at 252,000 miles, but with different engines! That is great for the original engine, it must have been looked after very well!
My 1956 Series 11 Traveller! Bought when I was 17 (1985)....sold 6 years (1991) later......bought back 9 years after that! (2000) With 6 different owners in the middle, what a lucky boy I am!

Re: Highest Mileage Ever?
I had a1968 A35 van until March this when I sold it to buy my Morris Minor van and the A35 had done 369000 miles on the same engine,clutch and gearbox.and never broke down.The A35 was by owned by my brother-in-laws uncle since it was 6 months old until 1996 when I got it.It had done 342000 miles between the end of 1968 and 1980 when he took it of the road and laid it up in a shed intil I got it in 1996.It had been off the road 16 years and I just put a battery on it and cleaned the fuel pump and it started.I just replaced the brake cylinders and it passed the MOT first time for over 16 years.
Re: Highest Mileage Ever?
Mine 'only' managed 192,000 on the original engine, it's now on 272,000. That's assuming the 5,000 it read when I got it in 1992 was actually 105,000. The original engine would probably have gone longer if I hadn't overheated it and warped the head/block.

Re: Highest Mileage Ever?
My 1970 traveller stands at 306,800. BUT: fourth engine at 295,000 (first of the engines went at 110K), original diff at 282,000 and had original gearbox failure in April at 303,000. I am less than 1000 miles of having completed 200,000 of these miles in 27 years (mileage in May 1984 was 107,785)
The recon gearbox is nowhere near as good at the original one (although it is supposed to contain bits of it), as is the Ivor Searle engine which had head gasket failure at just 13000 miles in August. The diff is the original unit rebuilt with an original crownwheel and pinion.
That's excellent that your car is still using the original units. So yours wins! - Try and keep it that way if you can..

Re: Highest Mileage Ever?
haha, well that would explain the noisy diff!
Mine only has 259,000 on the clock so is almost new in comparison. She's still on her first diff but 3rd gearbox and 4th engine! she managed 161,000 on the original engine, original gearbox about 130,000. I've clocked up 98,000 of those miles, which by moggie driving standards is NOTHING
Drive that engine carefully!

no idea the total mileage of Bluey. It went around the clock 3 years ago, and it clicked past 33k on the clock a few days ago.
she's definately not on her original engine, gearbox or diff though.

Re: Highest Mileage Ever?
Penny has had a second hand diff put in because as you back off doing over 40mph, the whole car juddered and grumbled. Turns out the bearings were COMPLETELY shot, you could move it about 5mm in each direction with your hand. the diff is lovely now (a very much appreciated donation from one of my friends, it has only done 63,000 and the only noise it makes is a middle pitched whistle above 50mph) Very happy with that. I shall continue to drive her very carefully. Getting towards half a million miles :O
